- Junior Category participants must be under 19 years old on March 19, 2011
- Senior Category participants must be ages 19 to 25 on March 20, 2011
- Open to musicians playing the violin, viola, cello, string bass, harp, and guitar
- Compitition judge will be Guillermo Figueroa, conductor of the NMSO.

Senior Category
Grand Prize: $200.00 cash, a one-hour professional recording session in Keller Hall, and NMASTA pays the $75.00 fee to enter this person’s CD in the ASTA semi-final round of the Solo Competition.
Runner-Up: $100.00 cash
Entrance fee: $40.00
Junior Category
Grand Prize: $150.00 cash, a one-hour professional recording session in Keller Hall, and NMASTA pays the $75.00 fee to enter this person’s CD in the ASTA semi-final round of the Solo Competition.
Runner-Up: $75.00 cash
Entrance fee: $30.00
At the discretion of the judges, NMASTA will enter winners in each category and on each instrument into the semi-final round of the national solo competition. Contestants must make a recording of their performance to be entered in this round of the competition. Contestants chosen for the national finals will perform live in Kansas City, MO, on March 16-19, 2011, at the ASTA national conference.
